Rep. Pitts to speak to Itasca ISD on Veterans Day PDF Print E-mail

ITASCA, TX--State Representative Jim Pitts will be the featured speaker for the Itasca Independent School District's Veterans Day Celebration. Pitts, a member of the Texas House of Representatives, has represented the Itasca area in Austin since 1993.

"It is extremely important that we honor all of those servicemen and women who have fought to protect our country and our freedom," Pitts said. "I humbled to have the opportunity to honor them this Veterans Day."

Veterans Day, first known as 'Armistice Day,' was first proclaimed in 1909 by President Woodrow Wilson to honor the sacrifices of those who served during World War I. The holiday was later renamed 'Veterans Day' by President Dwight Eisenhower.

The Itasca Independent School District, located in the heart of Hill County, is charged with educating the over 750 students living within its boundaries.

Pitts was first elected to represent Hill and Ellis Counties in the Texas House of Representatives in 1992. He lives in Waxahachie.
