Students from Waxahachie's talented and gifted program visit the Capitol. Pictured with Jim and the students are Senator Jane Nelson, Senator David Cain, and teacher Barbara Pickett, who sadly passed away on December 21, 2001. Barbara was an outstanding educator and we know that the many lives she impacted are a living legacy of her work.

Leadership Waxahachie made their annual visit to Austin. When Jim was president of the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce many years ago, he helped begin this program which trains citizens for leadership in the community.

Members of the Italy Junior High Honor Society made a visit to Austin during the session. The Italy Independent School District received Recognized Status by the Texas Education Agency. We are proud of the fine work that is taking place in the Italy schools.

Seniors who are part of a travel club sponsored by Citizen's Bank came to Austin as part of a "Mystery Tour." We were pleased to host them as they visited Austin attractions.

Nothing is more important than our children. I was pleased to serve on the Conference Committee on Teacher Health Insurance as well as Public Education Finance this past session. Our educators throughout District 10 are to be commended for the contributions they are making in the lives of thousands of our kids.
